That’s definitely an opinion! I’ve never saw him as a male lead, just someone who was about to like someone who wasn’t going to like him back. Because she wasn’t doing anything in particular but was mainly trying to support her step brother, who happened to be her favorite model! Akato was not viewed by her as a romantic interest at all! He was just a new friend that she helped out when she could! Do you see what I’m trying to say? It was obvious that it was going to be one-sided from the beginning with how she never once looked at him in that way. Even after they started their trial dating. Also, these types of authors like step sibling dating for some odd reason so…. Also, remember this, the author will always focus the mc’s gaze towards the ml/fl. So that means that their attention and emotions will be directed and affected by the character the author chooses to be the romantic interest. In this case, Haru’s main focus, especially emotions, have always been directed towards Noah. Akato knows this, that’s why he’s acting like that in the story! He really likes her but derp down inside, he knows she don’t like him as much as she does Noah. That’s why he’s acting manipulative in his desperation to get her to like him back.

Completely agree, plus I'll add that akato was always jealous of ML, since the moment we first saw him he was presented as someone with inferiority complex in regard to ML, he wasn't as popular as him, and wanted to beat him in just one think to feel superior.
The whole thing with their trial dating was manipulative, and I can't understand why ppl are saying that author did him dirty, since from the beginning he was created as flawed, jealous fella, he never was this perfect ml prospect that ppl are trying to present him as, far from it tbh.
To me he was unlikeable from the start.

Ppl just like him more than ml because ml is a deadpan, and akato is more expressive, that's it, if Noa were more outgoing not even one person would bat an eye at akato
