    In the novel they kill them all, including the children (in this scene their two daughters are with them), but not the baby (cause Abel hides her/him).

    I mean it’s a war. Karas in particular has been at the frontlines of the war since he was still a teenager, so it’s clearly dragged on long enough that mercy to children would have allowed those children to grow up and try to take revenge. How many times have you read a story where someone manages to survive/escape and then devotes the rest of their life to getting revenge on the people who killed their family??

    While I feel for the kids who didn’t live long enough to take part in the crimes, I can also recognize that it’s necessary in a WAR

    It's not even that (although you are not wrong). At the begging of the story it clearly states that in having dragon blood the kings were cruel and lacking of empathy.
