these stories always make me so conflicted bc IN REAL LIFE all of this is rape, confinement, emotional abuse and manipulation, controlling behavior, etc etc, and no amount of trauma will excuse inflicting it upon someone else, it just makes ml an asshole who needs a lot of therapy and to get the fuck away from the mc even if he gets his life together (remember kids, you are not under any obligation to forgive someone who hurt you, ever, or give them the time of day even if they apologize properly/admit their wrongdoings in clear language/take full responsibility/get help, which ofc these motherfucker tops never do)
I give it a BIT more leeway since it's fiction, but I'm one of those people that empathizes heavily with even fictional characters so it makes me uneasy, I don't really want mc to go back to the asshole
