It's a bit more complicated than that. Inside that body isn't just the MC but the old Harold as well. Which is kind of sad because the MC realize that he might eventually disappear even if he manages help Harold remain alive. So death is somewhat of a secondary reason now that he realize he's going to disappear anyway. Honestly, there is a lot in the novel that is missing from the manga. That's because the novel explains the event that is happening in great detail. Which isn't something the manga can do because manga are mainly art and the text shown are mainly character's monologue and dialogue.
Firstly, wtf was that panel with Erika. It's really really weird. Secondly, this thing is becoming so ass, and like the main plot of the story was that he's trying to avoid death yet now it somehow isn't a problem for him. Which would be fine, if it was written correctly, but it's just so ass.
