Because not many people were judging back then and wanted perfect detailed art. It was a healthier environment for artist as to not get bullied by sns comments. So no restrictions on how to bend the eye or draw the hand etc. . . I still have no idea how people judge art that's not even conventionally ugly ...

I'm talking about those intentionally weird arts, lik the guy that had so many abs, a big body and a head as small as an ant. It used to be posted wherever. lots of mangas r hella good and the arts were perfectly fine. But it was indeed a healthier environment before compared to how it is rn cause lots are easy to judge
