    I agree. But from what I'm seeing, I think they want to input the "I avoided going home and seeing stuff that reminded me of her because it would make me really sad so I just decided to work more to not think about her" type of narrative

    Yes it would make sense since he’s never at home, it’s still depressing and I would honestly hold a grudge if that happened to me

    right? like, i understand that he lost the woman he loves and is grieving but that doesn’t excuse him to neglect his child & making her feel as though he do not care about her & her deceased mother anymore. she literally felt that he abandoned her (which he did). it’s not excuse at all & i hate when these stories try to make them have this whole pity sob story. i can sympathize but it can only go so far. at the end of the day, he neglected his child & he has to live with that.
