Not sure if it’ll follow the novel but I’ll tell you what happens!! He finds out abt her original motive of getting with him during new years I’m pretty sure when he left to go see her at her hometown. He first was given a hint when he went to pick Zheng shuyi up from her friends wedding (people were talking abt her behind her back abt dating and old man for money when it was actually shi yan. He only found out through his driver and his niece. It was definitely Zheng shuyis fault but I don’t completely blame her because she slowly gained feelings. After he found out, they were supposed to go on a date but he stood her up and left her hometown to go back to the city. (Basically ignoring her until she apologized but he was rightfully angry. Eventually he gave in and accepted her apology because he couldn’t be away from her since he loves her a lot) I’m still rereading it because it’s been some time!!
He even blocks her before she could say sorry lmao and ignored her (like walked passed her like she was a stranger). Zheng shuyi was struggling with her feelings as well after he stood her up and found out she was blocked by him on wechat or wth they use
