Yaoi literally means a story without plot or one that goes nowhere lol its original purpose was just pointless smut or written by women expressing their suppressed desires hidden away from oppressive men.

Yeah, there were a few that were plot heavy, but let's not pretend more than 20% ever took themselves seriously lol even long running series like Okane ga Nai suffer from insufficient plots that are carried by smut and fanservice.
