heteronormative dynamics in relationships + when those dynamics drive the development of the story/relationship. also the "im straight but gay only for you" trope. thankfully, i learned from my mistake with bl and only read quality gl works so idk if gl does this as well, but boy do i know that the majority of the bl here falls under that "queer stories for straight people" category.

When it’s very realistic, and touch up on topics like homophobia. Straight people can write realistically about queer relationships, but I feel like when it’s written by a queer person, it feels a lot more real and a lot of queer people tend to write about their experiences like “Until I meet my husband” I didn’t even need to know. It was written by a gay man from the first few chapters I could tell it was from a queer person because of how realistic and raw it was

If we're talking abt the stuff on here, simple: if it has porny logic (men doing it w no prep or foreplay, feeling amazing the first time. Women being atrociously sensitive to any minimal touch etc etc)
Mainly when if you changed the gender of one of them you would've a plain straight couple bc they assigned the hetero roles to each character. When you can see the struggle, the fear, the anxiety of one's own identity and complexity of their every relationship with others you can tell its made by and for the queers
This is such a dumb question but when can you tell when a queer story isn’t made for its own community?
