i was so annoyed at him because his sensible friend had rejected that one sided promise and offered a reasonable one instead. plus later in life he makes an actually meaningful promise to someone else. should totally trump it. and this dude just. /chooses to stick to his rejected promise and ignore the far more important one that *was* accepted. by his wife. who he totally doesn't deserve./
he chose the promise he had with his friend when they were kids vs. his family especially his wife who he promised to protect
