I don't agree with him but I can understand it. He's been in that world for years. He has the power, influence, and skills to literally treat the world as his own personal playground. Which is what he wants. That kind of power will corrupt most people's way of thinking over time. And then Rimuru shows up. Someone who can actually pose a threat to his way of living in that world. So it's not much of a stretch for him to think "if I can just get rid of him, this world can fully be my personal playground again."
As the saying goes. "Power corrupts. Absolute power corrupts absolutely."
