I'm pretty sure he's 'Father' .... probably doing the'hiding in plain' sight kind of thing, bc would ANY top tier esper, who is THAT deeply involved in research AND founded a company for such research ... just leave it to others? Nope... they'd still somehow have their hands in the cookie jar so to speak if not be right in the middle. I just hope the MC and ML will be prepared for it.
