So the rest or group watched him actively spiral and have several mental break downs and eventually committed suicide. That is kinda traumatizing, especially when they did nothing to help. So yes they treat him like a ticking time bomb and a bit like a child. But its very realistic in that they feel guilty, but also dont want history to repeat itself they are honestly just worrying about him.
