It's just this idea that altruism always wins if you just believe in goodness enough. But I thought with the cafeteria scene where we'd lost a crap ton of kids before anyone even noticed that we'd established some realism. It took special entities and macguffins to get them out of the swamp and they nearly botched it. Now we just have, Sad face, oh no the kid! I can't just turn my back on it!" But there are no macguffins or special entities so I just don't believe I'll enjoy what the author will spit out for this
But if this were real life, absolutely beyond stupid to go back in that tunnel knowing what she's told everyone. Someone is going to die, there was a cost no matter what. And maybe a crazy plan that could work-- but didn't! We want to lose the snot nosed kid? Or the unique talented young woman? Now I know this is super hero themed instead of realistically themed.
