Yep, atleast he knows and admits he is a coward. Touma's resentment and Hayato's regret, those negative attachments lead to a less favorable future rebirths (who I feel sad for). Atleast Kaito and Yuuma broke the suffering-filled cycle.
The past ml was a coward. He didn't want to runaway with the past mc, I can understand that times were different back then and he had to think about his family too, so, it makes sense, but to not say a word to mc and get married like that.
