I'm right there with you. I've had an interest in Italian for more than 5 years, and I still haven't learned anything. I can only understand what looks similar to Spanish.
Yes, who doesn't like skipping chapters 1 to 5 and starting with ch. 6? I like to live dangerously btw. Also reading a Latin language while I'm at it. I've never learned, but everyone's a beginner in the beginning.
