I personally think that it’s more of a self insert rather than being Owen in the memories. Like he sees this from his POV so obviously he’ll think of it as him experiencing the memories rather than Owen, plus also by the fact that he doesn’t know how Owen looked liked so it’ll make more sense to be self insert rather than being in Owen’s body, that is until he sees himself in a mirror in a memory..maybe that’ll change !!
i feel like his memories he’s seeing are form the future. i saw someone say this a couple days ago and i feel more sure cause if you look at chapter 13, the memory of him in the bed has the same exact scar as the present. idk if owen had the same scar but yeah
