Probably to show why the empress stuck with the emperor for so long.
We already knew she stayed for mostly for her children, her love for the emperor (and him using guilt/manipulative behaviors), and due to other pressures from social norms/reputation.
I’m more interested in the actual divorce, seems like the author is stalling to me… ┑(￣Д ￣)┍
Why even bring Heidi into the story at this point? She barley lasted 2 chapters (〜￣△￣)〜
