Went on re-reading and the author said the Episode 1 happens in the present. So if the scene where MC is badly bruised and barefoot, who did that to him? And if it is the present, what are the ciscumstances that the MC ends up getting beat up the second time.
And the ML step cousin is icky because he likes the guy who looks like his cousin.
