the whole point of her being young makes sense with the fact that she’s so mailable under her father’s control. if she were 18, she would have much more control than what she has now so having her at a young age makes sense. if anything, it makes the story more bittersweet knowing she’ll never reach past adolescence
16 is a "good age for marriage" at those times, 18 up she would be getting "old"
On top of that girl is sick, she doesn't have much time, and the manga is always reminding us that at this point her body is already very f*cked up, she won't last longer.
