I think Jay contrary to his beliefs is actually extremely lucky and it's just a matter of how one looks at things that happened. Like yes a lot of unfortunate things happened in his life and at first I was thinking boy you actually really strong I would be suicidal for way less than that! BUT the recent chapters changed my perspective. I think his curse if you may is that he is a survivor... and he has been conditioned to believe that it's his misfortune affecting others and made to feel extra guilty for surviving but to me looks more like he has a guardian angel that keeps him from dying because anytime something happens to not just him but also others he's the only one unscathed Poor boy I'm really glad Arthur told him it wasn't his fault
