That's actually towards the novels conclusion. To summarize breifly: He's doing it so that the powers over him still think he's under their control. He never actually liked her romantically, it was just a cover.

It's all an act to throw off his evil step mom he doesn't like the girl at all......BUT the girl does look like his real mom a little bit (also the pic he keeps in his wallet and constantly looks at is his mother's pic) so that's why when they first meet he looks shook because of face similarities....and mc thinks it's because he likes her #－.－)and plots to get them together just like the future he knows of without knowing the reality that it was all an act they were never dating.....
