Big rant cause I can’t shut the fuck up:
I feel like a lot of the time it’s rooted in this icky thing where some people who read bl treat it as a straight relationship, with the bottom being the “girl” in the relationship. And they think the “girl” has to be a certain way(submissive, damsel, pretty), and the “man” has to be a certain way(overbearing, dominant). So, they get turned off because they’re rooted in a misogynistic and heteronormative view on relationships, which is such an ick, cause it’s bl for a reason! It’s BOYS love, like ughhh I get so annoyed when people say shit like, “would be good if the positions were switched” or “why isn’t the bottom pretty?” Like, just tell me you actually view this as a straight relationship and want to identify as the bottom, without telling me.(I feel like this happens a lot to fujoshis reading bls. I’m a fujo too, but like a select few of them just irk me.)
I’m just so sick of the feminization of bottoms, and how people get mad when the bottom is essentially not feminized enough for them.(this doesn’t apply to stories where the mc is like supposed to be pretty for story reasons, like stories about crossdressing and stuff or something.)(honestly, this is mainly a big gripe with old bls, that was when it was really bad lol. Like, it’s honestly funny seeing the two BOY mcs drawn in legit two different art styles in some of those stories lol. I like how modern bls have slowly started to break away from that pattern and trope.)
(I think that’s probably why I don’t like a lot of omegaverse stuff, in all honesty. Like, it kinda promotes this view in bl, with the omega always being super pretty and feminized. Like, it just is a big ick to me.)
