I loved this. We saw pain, real struggle, character development, many feelings (love, hate, sadness, loneliness)...There's A LOT of emotional violence in this story. For both mains. I think it's an accurate portrait on how it's not easy nor fast to break the circle of dependence. I actually liked the love story between Taeho and Chunwoo with all their wrongs and flaws. Taeho's quite deep of a character but he didn't fight for Chunwoo, he just gave up when he saw Ho-in in the picture. That golden opportunity to finally end things for good with Chunwoo. A coward, really. They really loved each other so much but it was doomed because Taeho's issues. But Chunwoo it's quite realistic too. He's very, very flawed. He can't shake off his love nor trust him, but the desire to be together runs so deep in him, he loved him too much and lost himself waiting for him to finally make a decision. I kinda get why he forced himself on Taeho that last time, not only to rectify that he didn't felt the same anymore but as a form of self-harm and punishment. He was his first love but not a real one. He was very unhappy and broken at the realization that everything was over but at the same time something switched inside him and the weight of that situation, ending things with Taeho, felt minimal in comparison to breaking his promise to Ho-In, breaking his heart (again), betray him one last time... It was very emotional. I never hated Chunwoo, I navigated through him and his emotions. It was painful but it was the right way to enjoy his growth and see how much he changed. And he changed beautifuly. Ho-In was another character that I really liked. There's not much to say about him because he's pretty straightfoward with his emotions and desires, and that face and personality helped in making him a likeable person, but it was nice to see a ML that just pours all of himself out there for better or for worse. And he took some serious damage in the process. He suffered like never before because all for him was a first, to fall in love that deeply and helplessly, and it was very, very intense and raw. The heartbrake was really difficult to read too. A lot of rage because he felt played even if he knew and accepted what he was getting into. He wasn't ready for the reality of Chunwoo's baggage but even after all that, he still loved him. They're very toxic at that time. He's not perfect, he has a temper but that's his way of showing that part of him he tries so hard to contain for the sake of being likeable and avoid conflict, which is the core of his personality and, ironically, what changed his life because he fell in love with, at that time, a very conflicted person.
I'm glad the side stories showed more about how their obsessive love is growing and growing every day. The end of the main story wasn't enough. It needed it more to fully enjoy this story and realize that they really love each other very deeply, maniacally even. They learnt how to overcome their problems and just enjoy themselves. They're such freaks lol
It's not a easy story to read, it's very complex but done right. I hope more people give this a chance and read it with open mindness.
Now, must wait for Woojin and (Y)itae's own love story someday and, who knows, Taeho's. .
