they got the curve right, he's hitting the rectosigmoid junction which is at most around 7.9 inches deep (signs are telling me to use the max number possible and to round the decimal up). as for the valve there are no valves that completely close off sections of the anus or colon with a little hole. the valves are mostly open with a partial fold though so not totally off
