Muon is NOT as bad as the Emperor. Saying this completely ignores the depth of his character. Muon is morally gray. Was he a good person? No. Was he a bad person? No. He made a mix of good and bad choices. He’s also a product of his environment and had to endure the curse while surviving in a corrupt system. So yes, it makes sense that for survival he used manipulation, lies, control, and secrets. Yes, he benefited from Seon. But people forget he also protected her from much of what the Emperor wanted to do to her. He put himself at risk for her, trusted her, let her make her own choices, and genuinely loved her for who she was. The Emperor, meanwhile, treated her like a tool and nothing more.
Muon didn’t just use her. He freed her from the curse too. I agree he did contribute to some of her pain, but he didn’t create most of it. The real source of her suffering was the original Emperor who forced the curse in the first place, her mother’s fear, and the Emperor’s cruelty. Muon was the first person to give Seon real hope, happiness, and love that helped break that cycle for her.
Of course, she also had Miss Unjeong and the mute boy. They were the first people to show her basic kindness and treat her like a person. But Muon was the first to give her true love and a kind of bond she couldn’t experience with anyone else. She didn’t just choose the lesser evil. She chose the person she loved, who loved her back equally.
i had high expectations for this story but it was eh…. i honestly cant get over the fact that he had her whole family’s death planned out. say what you want but i find the ML equally as bad as the emperor. the emperor was just upfront about being a shitty person. but the ML contributed the most to her pain even if it was to “save” her which i cant even wrap my head around because he basically isolated her for 10 years? he should’ve just kidnapped her and kept her by his side. idk at the end of the day they’re both the cause of her pain. i hate how the ML’s shitty actions are glossed over bec they’re inlove like no. thats not love. he planted her trauma then decided to become the only person she could rely on. she just had to choose the less of the worst, and she’s naive because she’s never experienced basic human decency outside of the people close to her.
