1. He was young and by time he was old enough to seek/take revenge he was already delulu into thinking the guy was his hero. Also he had seen with his own eyes that the murderer was a young guy and not the senator. Sometimes bad shit just happens for no reason. The likely cover-up was a robbery.
2. I'm pretty sure he knew the parents (as politicians/ colleges) so it's not like he was a complete stranger.
3. Clearly his "brother" is not gonna want him to get therapy bcuz he wants him to find solace in sex with the "brother". And the senator was clearly a deranged asshole so yeah nobody taught him any healthy anything.
