It’s origin was medical but it turned into a slur, and was then replaced with “intellectual disability” OVER 15 YEARS AGO

You’re in medical school and don’t know that’s a slur… it may have been used in the early days as a way to describe mentally ill people but now it’s a slur against disabled people that shouldn’t be used. As you want to be a doctor (im assuming) don’t go saying that word to your patients unless you want a lawsuit

Well I’m not American and where I’m from it’s not used as an insult. That’s why it’s still used as a medical term here. In fact words like cretin and imbecile are also medical terms used here. I’ll keep this in mind at least. Thanks
