He could've gone through proper character development and done more on veronikas case, slowly uncovering it as he finds out what made Marianne leave, then he could have had a whole montage where he COMMUNICATED with her instead of the same old 'id let the world burn for you' shit that people eat up so often. Liking her more isn't an apology, it's the author sweeping his behavior under his rug. He had room to be forgiven seeing as his background gave a reason for his aloofness, but the author just had to throw that away because God forbid the fl has time to shine for more than 10 chapters
