That’s such a lazy and misogynistic take. Saying the majority of women enjoy stories with sexual assault is not only gross, it’s just flat-out wrong. Men consume that kind of content too and often just as much if not more. You only have to look at porn stats or certain dark genres in media to see that non-consensual themes are popular with everyone not just women. Also liking something in fiction doesn’t mean you want it in real life. People read horror but it doesn’t mean they wanna get murdered. It’s the same logic. Fiction is a space where people process fears, trauma, fantasies or just explore stuff that’s not okay in real life and that goes for all genders. And let’s not forget YAOI and BL aren’t only made by or for women. A lot of readers regardless of gender are drawn to how these stories explore power dynamics, trauma, vulnerability, identity etc. The list is endless. Reducing all of that to “women like rape stories” is not just inaccurate but it’s lazy and sexist. So yeah if you wanna criticize a trope at least do it with nuance and not by making gross generalizations.
