was each chapter a different story cause damn was I confused

Yes, each are different stories, but all the characters from every chapter have come across each other at least once. They're all set in the same universeI just started reading this earlier today and just finished it now, and I started noticing the fact that I could recognize some character on the other chapters to the previous one. It was crazy, gave me chills. I just found this but I'm already in love with the author's work. Truly a masterpiece I wish I found years before
