I think it’s because they’re childhood friends, Yuta and Kanta met 1st and Kanta fell for him but never confessed. Once in high school, Yuta met Daichi and fell in love and that’s when Kanta thought “that means I had chance”. Maybe if he had pursued Yuta before going to high school they could’ve been dating, but he gave up because he thought Yuta was straight (prior to high school)
I think you're getting the tl wrong, they're childhood friends so he liked him way before he knew Mogami was gay and he liked a senpai. So once he started going after the senpai, he got to know that Mogami was gay. He's saying that he would have gave it a shot if he knew Mogami was gay (he likely didn't wanna ruin their friendship since he didn't know that before)

I read the main story after this chapter and it seems in the main story, Kanta already knew Mogami (his childhoos crush) was gay and liked Daichi (the senpai). why is this story acting as if Kanta didn't know any of this when he says "i didnt know he would fall for a guy" or "that means I had a chance" bc the first story shows that he already knew his friends heart belonged to someone else (and he even meddled in their relationship)
