I read it a few years ago. It's a school life story. It's about a boy that returns to japan, to the country of his mom. In the new school he meets the MC and he misunderstand a japanese expression as being asked out, but he accepts. The Ml gets involves in several traditionally Japanese activities, and cries while doing them because he is doing them to connect with his mom (I think she is dead). I remember he enters a kite club, I also remember him crying in front of a cherry blossom and with a yukata during new year's. I think they kiss at the end.
It's such a wholesome short story and I can't remember the name.
Another detail I remember is that the whole school is invested in their relationship, but both of them are too naive to realize they are into each other and what they are doing together is actually dating.
