It's so confusing to me sometimes too, especially when most of these authors are women themselves. Sometimes I think it boils down to internalized misogyny but who knows.

Let's not forget that women can be as mysogenistic as anybody. They also grew up in a society that view's women as inherently inferior.
Also you need a conflict, a Set Point to "explain" why the male lead ist so much better than any Woman, so that the male character falls in love.
