It didn't hit me until the end that there's literally no reason for the beginning plot to be about needing to kill the friend? Like if his reasoning is just that he needed an excuse to be close to mc as a ghost why wouldn't he just say that he has unfinished business he needs help with or something It makes 0 sense now that we have the full context. I wish they had leaned into that dynamic more because it seemed like it had good potential for some interesting moral dilemmas and drama. The route this story actually took felt more cliche and its literally just oh the power of love cured my coma!

To be clear I still enjoyed this and I think they're cute together I just wish the plot had been a bit more thought out maybe?

I think he wanted to make himself the villain so the other boy felt less guilty about his death? (Once he finally passes away?)
Or he didnt believe the boy d want to help him so he decided to involve someone he knew he cared about.
But yea that s confusing lol

He was intentionally being mean in making Souma choose between Haruna and him (because of their weird group dynamic of loves-me, loves-me-not). Saying it as *killing* Haruna I think was a bit more gruesome than it could've been (I think the author planned on making Ren into more of an asshole than he ended up being), but it was ultimately about testing Souma and his (supposed) affection for Haruna so that Enamoto came out as the bad, selfish guy after his allotted time haunting Souma (i.e his death).

yess like the other person said it was more to make souma choose between them but i do wish they leaned more into that villain plot cuz ngl he switched up after 1 (one) chapter
