Thats what i was thinking too!!! They have so much connection in the past when they were kids and originally betrothed to e/o and the history of gray's hair ribbon it all makes sense they promised to marry e/o first.
The duke is the last one who fell in love with eleanor, 2nd was the knight. So i think gray was like "he was mine first" base on their history.
I also think the blonde bitch was into gray considering that he is an omega i think he was delulu enough to think that he can become gray's partner bc he kinda grew up with him when gray fled from his family but our ml was two lifetimes worth of down bad for elle
