People keep saying that they don’t like her mother, but if this was in the POV of the mother and she went back in time and started treating her daughter right everyone would love it so I’m not understanding, she’s trying her best.

    Agreed. I feel like there’s a certain level of trust between mother and daughter they’re trying to convey here. Moreover, the protagonist is lyrica, but we know from the theatre fire that the mother is actively also trying to change the fate of everyone in the empire. She’s fairly busy herself and is relying on her knowledge of the future and is only recently realizing her knowledge could be off at this point. She’s had no reason to believe lyrica is or was being targeted based on her past life memories that have been working for her, and has only recently been rethinking it.
