you claim that as if they have an abundance of medicine just lurking around, so getting a vial or two is just the same as it is in a normal society. These are desperate people on the verge of death, trying to preserve what little sanctity they have, a stolen vial could literally be a matter of life of death to the entire town, not just one person. You think hounds are always successful in their trips to get more resources? they might come empty handed, they might come back to weary and sick, and if there's no more of them out there scouring the outside world, what then of those that are inside the town walls?

You talk as if ONE MED caused the death of the hound. No. It clearly stated it was when ppl overused the meds was when the hound died. first of, death by a bat COULD be the better method of execution- armory is reserved and limited, and any other equipments that they have are most likely in subpar conditions, so much that it might just end up prolonging the suffering of the man instead when used. A good blow from a solid bat could give you immediate concussion, rendering you unconcious for the rest of the misery. Second, yes one medicine IS a matter of life or death for the town, the kid was sickly, there was no assurance that he would even get better with the medicine, for all they know the dad just wasted a VERY important resource on a losing cause, and for what? also this is a matter of taking accountability, the reason why they had that extreme rule in the first place is because it was already proven that when given a chance, the people do take it for granted, so they have to be stricter and more extreme now. If the ML showed mercy despite the town's vote and used the reason that the guy just needed medicine coz his son was "writhing in pain" u know what's gonna happen next? others will just do the same and pull their own sob stories, and of course if it reaches to a point when the ML refuses to pardon them, then the fault is now on him, coz why did he allow others but not everyone else? this is fairness in action, it's brutal but a necessity to keep such system working.
