I don't know if anyone else had to read "the Lottery" in school, but essentially the premise of the story is that every year the village has a tradition to sacrifice a villager to ensure a plentiful harvest, which they do by stoning them to death... Chapter 18 reminds me of Tessie being stoned to death by the villagers, including her own son, simply because it's tradition and they don't know any better. Idk tho, super dystopian vibes
