if we're going to look at this chapter with the lens of our current world, yes it is cruel and inhumane. but let's remember that this is an apocalyptic era and it's bound to have stricter rules(or laws as stated in the chapter) so i can see why they have the trial. do i think the punishment fits the crime? absolutely not. but in my opinion this is one of the flaws humans exhibit(specifically guwon) when put under pressure and power.
what i think the punishment should've been: let the father join the hounds and let him help gathering supplies rather than just outright sentencing him to death
