Am i the only one??

Maybe its because i have chickens myself, my family+me take really good care of them ofc... but seeing 'k' in agony like that over his eggs being taken away really hit me :(( I live on a farm, and one of my little farm-duties is to get the eggs from our chickens each night. Usually youll notice that chickens are pretty protective about eggs, even ones that arent theirs. But when theyre eggbound?? They'll do ANYTHING to protect their eggs. Scream, puff up their feathers, peck at your hands, fly at you...etc... chickens are EXTREMELY SMART so if you wrong them, they'll remember. And they'll distrust you from that moment on. So seeing 'K' getting treated like that broke my heart just a little bit. Poor guy :((

yeah but also chicken boy's eggs weren't fertilized so if they didn't take them away he'd get traumatized anyway bc they'd rot ╥﹏╥

I have a question chicken man! So do chickens protect ALL the eggs they lay ? Even with unfertilized eggs?, for some reason I thought that they only protected the fertilized eggs, and the others were just something they had to do

Ill gladly awnser with what i know!! :) so. A roosters job is to fertilize the eggs. Once an egg is laid, a rooster might think 'hey let me cum on that rq' and then it becomes...well....fertilized. Usually the roosters do this when the hen that laid the egg is busy eating, or laying another egg elsewhere. Therefore most hens have no idea which eggs are fertilized, nor do they really care... After all, the roosters just doin' his job, no big deal. When it comes to how hens behave around their eggs, there can be a lot of factors to consider! One of them being how tame your hens are. My hens for example, dont jump at me. They're very tame. They might give me a warning by growling and puffing up their feathers if they're eggbound, but normally theyre pretty chill about it because they know who i am and what my intentions are. Second factor to consider is health. This one is very tricky. Something you should know about chickens is that they dont show symptoms of sickness at all, untill its already too late to save them... theyre very prone to bacteria, and having a clean and proper chicken coop is CRUCIAL. Ive had one chicken who was perfectly fine in the morning, and passed away a slow grueling death in my arms that same day, only 10 hours later(not even kidding, the image of that still lowk haunts me) But anyways, how chickens behave when fetching eggs can also be influenced by their health. Lets say i want to grab an egg from under a completely normal hen. I put my hand underneath her belly, she might coo at me a bit in discomfort. Maybe shake a little to get comfortable again, or stand up to make it easier for me to get the egg. Now, same scenario with an eggbound hen... i put my hand near her belly, and immedietly she puffs up all her feathers and growls to warn me. When i get my hand under her, she might peck at me if shes uncomfortable. Or she might start angrily tensing up her legs around my arm. These two scenarios could be with the exact same hen! It just proves how chickens can act very diffrently according to their health and mood. Theres a lot more important stuff about chicken health you should know, but i dont wanna make this message longer then it already is... so lets get onto another point. :) chickens are some of the most sassy animals ever, suprisingly. Most of them remind me of sassy wine aunts, yk? So... they dont give a SINGLE SHIT about who's eggs their laying on. They could be fertilized, they could not be fertilized, they might not even be the hens own eggs... but eggs are eggs. Its a sort of 'maternal instinct' type of thing. They see an egg, and they want to keep it warm so itll hatch. Its no more complicated then that. Thats why when collecting eggs, a hen might become distressed. Her eggs are being taken away from her, therefore that means they wont hatch. Thats hen logic. Anyways im ending this message off because its already wayyy too long... hope i cleared some stuff up!

Hey man, just wanted to inform you... chickens dont really give too many shits I can tell you from eggsperience(sorry i had to make that pun) there is no way a hen will lay on her eggs long enough to whitness them rot. Eggs take about three months to genuinely start rotting, a hen will VERY likely have moved on already in that period of time. And even if somehow she didnt, and the eggs did rot whilst she was still caring for them, she'd just be put off by the smell and leave the eggs alone... hope i cleared that up for ya. Im not calling you an idiot by the way, im just trying to educate you!
