I don’t think he ever protected her. He didn’t report her last time due to no evidence and she threaten the ML who was a child at the time and very unstable, she used that against MC. He was ready to pin her to the wall.
Now, he’s still not protecting her, he doesn’t want the ML to become a killer (warning I get rather sarcastic from here) because obviously that’s where he draws the line, not kidnapping, rape and false imprisonment.
Nope, you’ll only become a bad person if you kill the person who murdered your mother and other ppl then covered it up for years.
