Same happens with detective Conan, I follow it for almost 30 years now and they went from beepers, boot phones, to old cell phones, flip ones and smarts in only 9 months! (The amount of time that passed in the serie lol)

It's been so long that the author now has to sprinkle things in the story to "update" the world
Like the whole talk of flip phones and smartphones
It's kinda mind boggling when you realize that when this started smartphones were in their first stages
