This is hilarious… only finished ch 6 so far but it seems like this guy is on spectrum. But that aside, here is a PSA for anyone crushing on a nerd getting their doctorate: read their publications before the date (as best you can) or at least the abstracts and their research summary (usually on their lab’s website). If someone is willing to devote 6-8 years to get a doctorate and work in a field that is criminally underfunded (in terms of research grants) and no guarantee of job stability (like he said his experiment was cancelled despite how much work he put into it) then it’s a major part of their life that you should take interest in learning about. I’m not saying you need to be fluent in their field’s language or understand their research to have a deep convo about it like you’re their colleague, but know it enough to engage them and make it known that you care about this part of their identity
