He's saying he's not sure how long Aiden's feelings will last, not that he doesn't know it. He even said (when Aiden confessed to him) that he can tell how much Aiden likes him even from the way he looks at him. He's just not sure how long it'll last which is a valid concern for almost everyone because feelings do change over time.
