To new readers, read S1 first!! The flashback will be much easier to get through reading it all at once! Yes it's a lot but i think some are exaggerating since earlier readers experienced it differently and dealt with waiting each week (i think over a year) after S1 ended on a cliff hanger.
I feel people suggesting starting with s2 will ruin how the author intended things to be revealed like getting to know and love Ian first and learning about the world and stuff from his pov. Readers will questions things with Ian rather than knowing all a characters motives since you skipped ahead a season. aaaand it'll take away all the fun of rereading S1 and catching things after the reveals from s2.
