I agree. Out of all the love interests, only Joshua seems to respect Emma enough as an individual and he is very used to her antics. He's also kind of puppy coded which is something I like hehe. It's like if Emma gives him any attention I imagine him wagging his non-existent tail lololololol.
However, it really is up to Emma and what she wants. If she goes with dating an older man then hehehehe. Emma has a very respectable taste in men. Of course she'd 20's when it happens tho. But if my girl is planning on getting a hot older man later down the road in her life, I am not opposed whatsoever lololololololololol
I mean besides his incompetency and judging people so fast at the start, it is implied that he is a "reward" of sorts that, in a way. With the mentality of "Why wouldn't Emma like him? He's got everything to him, he's the prince, got high magic power, what is not the be desirable?" I mean that's what society always says and that's what the king says too like have Emma engaged to the prince as a compensation since that seems like proper collateral.
However, us as the viewer knows that the engagement would heavily lean in the Royal family's favor instead of for Emma's family or for Emma's well-being. It's due to that perception that the crown prince is desirable which bleeds into the prince as well. There is that sort of implication with the prince when he has that mentality of "I'll become someone worthy of you" that he kind of assumes once he's become "worthy" of her that he thinks he'll get with her. He's emotionally investing his feelings into her without having that input from Emma herself on what she feels about it.
I've seen that a lot in some media where the man who puts emotional investment in a woman and there is always that implication that he'd have the investment returned with interest. However, that's not really how reality works. Even if you are emotionally invested in someone, the person you are invested in does not have to return those feelings. And I kind of hate the prince for having that mentality, but it's unfortunately an idea that's predominant thoughout society (in fiction and reality). In the end, it makes sense for a kid that's very impressionable to develop these kinds of thoughts since (I'm assuming) he's surrounded by them, but it's also because he's a kid that he can learn these lessons and grow as a person to become a good leader. So, overall, I think the prince has potential, it's just that he's going through his cringe era and I really hate seeing it. That's my opinion tho. Potential love interest to Emma tho... Noooooooooooo.
Also on the other hand, I think I like Joshua because he seems to know that his feeling aren't guaranteed and doesn't really expect Emma to like him back whatsoever. He's just happy to be of use to her and to be within her presence. He's like a fanboy with his favorite idol in a healthy way and I really like that dynamic. However, who Emma ends up with is on her.
