I feel like the punishment of DEATH was too harsh.

There was definitely a better way of punishment. I know there are a lot of people that are going “it’s an apocalypse, it’s already chaotic, if you let one crime go unpunished then everyone is going to do it.”

However, I feel like even in this apocalypse… there can be different punishments for different crimes? Like, for example, Negan from the Walking Dead. Dude didn’t immediately say “instant death” to every crime. I will admit even his punishments were inhumane and manipulative to instill fear, but damn.

All that father wanted to do was help his child. He did steal, but did no one think “hey, solitary confinement sounds a little better for this type of crime”. It’s not like the punishment of said crime being death is even deterring people from doing it.

GWON WHAT ARE YOU THINKING. You black and white thinking mf, can’t stand you right now.

Thanks for coming to my Ted Talk.

Hmmmm I don't know bc I think it was p telling that the entire town voted yes tho. Makes me wonder what the true dynamic between Guwon and the town is. Did they vote yes out of fear of his retaliation? Or is he at the mercy of the town, wanting purpose and acceptance and gaining it by serving as the town's scapegoat for their selfishness? His painful past would be the key to this and so I'm excited to see what the story reveals.

I agree with you. I am curious, if knowing the punishment was going to be death why would he risk taking the medicine. Could have ask for vote to save his child. Or offered to go with the hounds to search for more.
Also had to look up what Sisyphus meant.

Right, knowing the myth of sisyphus makes you wonder who sisyphus is in the story- I believe it's probably Guwon. He's being "punished" with having to be the "boss" of the town, which feels more likely w the theories that Guwon may possibly be a maggot or some form of undead. And of course there's the phrase "one must imagine sisyphus happy", which would apply to Guwon here in that he obviously doesn't enjoy being the boss much (he's constantly anxious, lacks sleep, and feels guilty whenever he carries out executions) and yet smiles the whole time. The only part abt the title that confuses me is the "hounds" part because I don't believe hounds/dogs are associated with sisyphus? Hellhounds are typically considered guardians of Hades, which is the place/person who punished sisyphus and makes me think that role may be played by the townspeople that force Guwon to continue his role

That's interesting! Even more reason to wonder who the "hounds" are in this story then.
