I think he realised what it means to be the top dog. Before he thought it was just a way to show everyone that he’s the strongest, but know he knows it’s not just about strength. Ume showed him what’s it’s like and the heavy burden that comes with it. Sakura thinks that he’s never going to be ready for that kind of responsibility and take on the burden. He has baggage that is not ready to be let go just yet. Right now he’s happy with where he is, but I bet deep inside Endo’s word about him not belonging in Furin still gets to him.
I wonder why Sakura is almost dreading becoming the top of Furin now, is it because he still feels like he isn’t worthy despite everyone thinking he is ??
or because his reason to be the top (to be validated) has been voided because he’s already been acknowledged and validated by his friends.
