It takes realllly longgg time before he actually accepts the truth lol, in the novel, it was done in such a way that the readers too would be confused if it really was him or jin.
Also, just a theory, i think his soul is dark because he's pretty much someone who keeps himself or the things that are his, above everything else and anything that gets in the way, he makes sure they are taken care of and even the way he makes sure to help his own close people is through his own twisted ways. So not really someone kind but personally i think that's a fine way of thinking tho.

also, theres no way he has THAT much of a shitty soul. even in his first life, he really did try to be genuine with yuno and piggy. if the elf really does have clairvoyant powers she should be able to see that too.
